What kind of game is Flux Caves?

Flux Caves is a 3D puzzle game. My plan is to create something which can be a challenge, but still you enjoy to play. I want to create a soothing environment and this is enhanced by slow piano-based music. Big inspirations came from the Witness and from Zelda: Breath of the Wild dungeons, Sokoban and the classic Pipe games.

For LINUX users: There are serious problems with the Linux version. I'm working on it, but until that I turn off the download option for that platform. Thank you for your patience!

Your Steam version doesn't recognize the last puzzle as done.

Yup it crashes under Linux. It looks like an invalid memory address call, you properly have a memory leak or calling to illegal memory (eg. outside of your process).

Please, can you provide the Linux version with debug symbols (debug build!)? That would be the only way to debug this issue in more details. Maybe I can help you.

I can't get more output (due to the fact No symbol table is loaded.):

Its seems really fun and chill but it consistently crashes on the first open world puzzle - is this the Linux issues you mentioned in the game descriptions?

When you exit from the first cave level? thats coused usually if you not using vulcan API (and the most problem on linux)

how do I start the game in vulkan, not openGL?

This game is super relaxing and the puzzles are challenging. The soundtrack is nice and chill, and it runs great on my RX 580. Nice job, fubenalvo!

thank you very much :)

https://fubenalvo.itch.io/fluxcaves/devlog/108404/flux-caves-is-free-to-download... is free!

Well done!

thank you :)

It's still super relaxing to play. The visuals and the soundtrack are just great.

briliant video, thank you! :)

I found a workaround for the Linux "black fog" bug: Switch to Unity's Vulkan backend by adding "-force-vulkan" to the command line. Seems like it might make sense to switch the game over to Vulkan by default, at least on Linux.

This was really relaxing experience. Totally gonna play more for myself. I like how it looks, how it sounds(that music is perfect) and puzzles are so good

Thank you KDi, and dont forget the cakes in the new update! ;)

I love this game so much, I was just wondering. is there/will you ever make a discord server?

I'm on several discord servers, but yeah I dont have my own. Do you think there would be need for it?

no, just thought it would be nice to have a place to discuss bugs and ideas for the game

This game is so beautiful! Even though it's a puzzle game, it's so calming and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Have you made the music yourself? It was so wonderful :D

I don't know if you've heard of Game Development World Championship before (gdwc2019) but it's a competition for indie game developers where they can submit their games and it's free! It's great if you want some more visibility for the game and it only takes a couple of minutes to join :)

Thank you for the kind words :)

Yeah ofc, I heard about it, Flux won one of the game of the week voting. here is the project page: https://thegdwc.com/pages/game.php?game_guid=8bb9c0b3-6f2f-46e1-8563-0d0d5ccd6277
Hopefully I can visit Findland at the end :)

Oh that's great! Good luck in the competition :D

thank you :)

Hey! Sorry it took me so long to check this out. I added it to my bonus games here but I think it's shaping up really nicely so far! Having an open world element was smart since most 3D puzzle games are just going from one closed room to another.

I'd like to see more of that, something that gives the setting a story, like the crashed ship?  I haven't had time to get through much of it, though, so I'm not really in a position to give any quality feedback beyond the core mechanics, which are great. Will play more when I have more time.

I generally love to see puzzles like these tie into the world rather than just exist in them, like each one helping to complete a task in the environment. Power something up, get water flowing to an area, etc.  So I'm curious to know what the hook is with this game as I continue with it!

Thank you for the video! :) Tha game will be available on Steam in tomorrow if you are intrested in! ;)

This is a cool puzzle game concept and I'm keen to see what the full game has to offer (I plan to revisit this once it comes out on steam hehe)

Here's a little video of my impressions of the demo version ;P

Are you intrested in free steam key/keys to finish the game? :)

Oh, yea that would be awesome! :D

Let me know if you need anything from me before you can send a key

The game starts but there is some weird black fog that doesnt let me see the entire map, i just can see things when i am next to them. Everything else goes dark.

OS: Kubuntu 18.10 (KDE)

Yeah its seems like the Linux version is broken now, because of one assets error. I'm discussing the problem with the assets creator, what we can do with this now.

Thanks!

So that's why it isn't listed for Linux now?

Yep, you cant se farther then 1m in the game, its unplayable on Linux right now. I'll need some time to fix this.

I just tried 0.9.5 (downloaded it before you took it down but hadn't tried it) and it seemed fine on my system. I didn't do any extensive testing, but I could see pretty far in game.  SteamOS  beta, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (415.27 drivers).

Yeah thats used a different technic for volumetric lights. I changed that to make it run smoother on linux, and thats backfired a little bit. There is a small bug, which will be fixed, but I'm waiting for someone to help in that, couse I'm not that good in shader programming.

Doesn't work. It loads to 100%, then nothing. My CPU runs up to 100% but nothing happens.

My system: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: 5.1.3-arch1-1-ARCH
Executable: 0.95 Demo

Is your rig meets the minimum system?

  • CPU: AMD A8-5600 or similar Intel

Wait. This game needs a 1060 ? Even Cities:Skylines runs on my Intel HD Graphics 620 (very low graphics and 20 fps, but it runs) !

I had a problem when writing the comment, the page wouldn't load, only the comments and the screenshots, so I didn't see the requirements. Now I see it, and I'm like.. This wouldn't even run at 720p ?

(A good way to support lower HW is to allow toggling dynamic or animated decoration, like the trees and shaders.)

It will run on lower, configs but I cannot garantee the stable 30FPS on native resolution. Thats the Minimum for me. I've tested it on GeForce GT710, and yeah its running but with 640x480 all minimum graphics and around 18-25 FPS

Yeah, it requires some optimisation.

Good luck !

Pretty fun. I've only played the first few levels but plan to do more. I might wait for the Steam release to play more. Well made puzzles so far that are pretty simple but hard to solve at first glance.

I uploaded a video but it's not live until tomorrow. Trying out Youtubes new(ish) premiere thing. Basically it starts about 10 after I post this comment.

I saw the screenshots and my eyes went like this O_O

thank you. I hope you'll like the gameplay too :)

Was playing the demo on stream.  And I must say that I fell in love with this game. I am waiting for Steam version, and will finish the game after the release :)

(1 edit)

I've just started to prepare for the steam release. Probably there will be some minor change  between the v0.95 and the Steam version. but hopefully I dont have to fix too much thins from now :) The ETA is June 7, I'll try to keep it.

Hey Fubenalvo, i played the demo not realising the full game was out. I did a video of my playthru but I guess its out of date already! Lovely game, really enjoyed playing it.

Hey there, thank you for the video. Hop you liked it as much you liked NeonCode :) I watch this ASAP, and please send an email to fubenalvo1987@gmail.com and I'll send you a free download link for the full version! ;)

There is an intersection  around front of the level 11. If you go there, you'll see open world puzzle 02 on your left down. Turn right and, here is level 13 :)

Finding the levels is kinda part of the game, level 18 is the most difficult to find

These can be fixed easily. I'll make these changes into v0.94! ;)

I really enjoy the game, and I'm looking forward to where it goes. I've played it a bit (and wandered around the lake a little), but I did run into some frustrations. It took me a while to figure out how to move the blocks because they didn't always move - and then suddenly they would. I'm not 100% sure why, but it seems like if I walk all the way up to a block where I've touched it, it has a good chance of not moving when I click the mouse, despite there being the arrow showing me I can. I tend to have to back up and try again or walk away and come back or just not get too close to it. Even that doesn't make it work all the time. I wish I could offer more, but that's my only issue with this otherwise excellent game.

It's a good start to figure it out. I have some idea, so I try to reproduce the bug. Thank you for the feedback! :)
May that can help if you tell me, this bug appeared for you on the 1st or at the 2nd level too?

A couple more things I noticed. Sometimes when moving the block didn't work, it seemed to shudder a little, like it was stuck. And sometimes when it didn't move, if I then tried to move forward, the block would then move.  Perhaps because I had moved... Best of luck with your game!

Not working for me I'm afraid (v.092 windows) Game loads and I'm looking at a door, as soon as I move forward I hear a door hiss but the camera goes into a spin. I can pause the game, which stops the spin, but restarting spins again..

Maybe you havr controller plugged in?

I did have, so have now unplugged it but still getting the same. Happy to debug further if that's helpful to you. Let me know what else I can try.

May can you make a video about this? That would help a lot

I liked the game very much. Only played the trail version though. level 1 was a bit to easy even though it was an intro level. also im thinking it  would be nice if the sliding was a bit smoother, other than that, i don't have anything to say

(+1)

Thank you very much. Yeah now the slide is a little laggy, couse I'm trying to optimize the game as much as possible. Maybe I should try something in the middle :)

Yeah. but you could make it really smooth, by making it accelerate, and the deccelerate. so it goes slow, faster, faster, slower, stop.

Oh, and also a minor thing, but the sound effects could be worked a bit on. Music is fine thought.

I loved the atmosphere and the puzzles were great too!

Thank you oliver! :)

This was a fun little puzzle game, good design, and the puzzles were self explanitory!!  We can't wait to play the full version!!

Thank you for the review GrayDeathSociety! If you need a free key to create video about the full version, write an email to me, and I'll send some :)

(+1)

These puzzles picked up in difficulty really quickly! Left a quality of life feedback in this one :)

I made a todo list on the game page for the v0.92 and added you suggestions. I'll have to redo a big part of the platform moving to fix some bigger issues and hopefully after that for example the 3 undo will be enabled

Hi,

I can't get the game to launch on OS X.

I have a 2.9 GHz i7 with 16GB RAM, 1536MB intel graphics card.

I changed to "very low" graphics setting & the game just hangs on a black screen. My cursor turns into the spinning beach ball.

Any advice?

if you wait 2-3minutes its still not loading? I had this kind of issue before

(1 edit) (+1)

hey I figured out how to get past the demo limitations. All you have to do is spam space and get on the rock right above level 2 after that head over to the right where level 1 is and there should be a hole in the barriar if you get it right there I couldnt get my screen recorder working but you should probably be putting a dome around the end of the trial version insted of just a wall. Oh and you can actully bug around to the last level and not even have to do anything before that. Just wanted to share this with you knowing you need people to buy your game and not just cheat around it

Thank you, I'll fix these in the next version :)

And I will try to find a way around it :D

Sounds as a mini challenge :D

Indeed

after what I assume is the "tutorial", the game loads and freezes up...

Thank you for the feedback!
After that loads the openworld part of the game. Is your rig meets the minimum system req? If yes, please describe your system and I'll try to look up, what's the problem.

Heard about this on gaming on Linux, it looks like fun! I'll buy a copy as soon as payday comes around :-)

Thanks, I hope you'll like it :)

How you mean laggy? Is your system reach the minimum req? Try to lower the graphics from the options menu!

And yeah this is an early access version therefore I'm fixing bugs you guys reporting. :)
The source code wont be public soon, that's sure. Maybe after I released the game on all mayor platforms. Maybe next year... we'll see. honestly, i dont have plan for that.
