A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
NeonCode is a free cyberpunk indie adventure game. The game is free, because I this a just a hobby for me, something that I like to do. So if you like the game, I’m just simply happy about it! No ads, no lootbox, no traps. Just the game. :)
The scene is a cyberpunkish-retrowave city mixed with some noir elements. The game is mixing the open world gamestyle with some classic adventure game elements. NeonCode was inspired by films and games like Blade Runner, Miami Vice, Grim Fandango, Telltale games and many other.
The development started at November 2017, and finished at Aug 2018. I mostly worked on the game after work, so the full development time is about 250-280 hours.
PLEASE RATE THE GAME AFTER PLAYING! THANK YOU! :)

i just uploaded my gameplay of this, pretty cool! :D
This game is amazingly well put together for a hobbyist! I take my hat off to you (not a fedora, though, we just can't seem to shift those things) for a job well done!
The story is pretty solid, it looks very polished (although there is a lot of character model reuse, but that's totally forgivable in a solo project in my eyes!) and my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I realised there was a driving aspect to the game!
Outstanding stuff, I had a blast playing it and I'll be keeping an eye on updates / sequels / new games from you for sure! Keep up the amazing work =)
great game man, the music and effects really made the game immersive.
Loved the game dude! So much detail and design in the visuals and a great soundtrack to go with it. Controls are a bit clunky at times, when it comes to the driving, but overall had a blast with this! Looking forward to seeing more! Keep up the awesome work!
I tried to download the version for windows and the Download does not work !!!
Very nice! Thanks for the adventure!
Thank you for the Linux support !
[BEFORE/AFTER] Ethan's bar development: first version made at 2017 december
Wow, that's a huge difference. Would love to see other comparisons if you have more screenshots.
Hey dude, I really liked your game! I can tell you put a lot of hard work into it, so thank you for the experience!
Wonderful rainy neon world with nice music, thanks. But weird mix people and styles, e.g salsa dancing girls and rock guitarist, or cops in classic uniform and robot cops. Shooting drones is funny, taken by train or jump from Grand hotel balcony is scary :D I hope that will come minimap (maybe in tablet), voices (just mumbling) maybe better hints (or actual task instructions)... and support gamepad control. The most bugs is funny, some is frustrating but luckily a load last checkpoint will solved its.
PS: Driving my car after ending is very schizophrenic.
Why is the game loaded already at 30% progress? I ran it on i5 3570k, 8GB RAM, GeForce GTX 970, Win10
Voice acting was in the plans before, but I dont have the financial background for a good one. Probably that part wont missing in my next game, but thats a far future (more than 1 year) couse now I'm already in a new game project with 3 fellow devs.
Am, the compass arrow is not perfect I know now. That would be much better with 360deg rounding around the display's edge. But the whole idea was to make a really clear almost non-gui game. without any text or gui element on the screen.
And Yeah, the loading bar is faked, because the Unity's loading prediction is catastrophic. So I calced an avarge loading time on the test machines and that is the 100% now. I hope Unity will fix this in the future.
Thank you for playing NeonCode :)
Hey there! Your game looks beautiful and amazing-- I cannot wait to play it!!
Unfortunately, though it loads okay on my mac and I can press 'new game' it seems to no be able to be able to handle it after that. No error message, just an inability to finish load up the visuals and only a couple of jerky frames of suggested movement. It's the kind of thing you would expect to see with something that was too processor-intensive, but I'm surprised because my mac is pretty new? Anyway, no pressure-- it sounds like you've done a great job anyway, but if you are curious here are my specs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)
Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB
OS: 'high sierra' version 10.13.6 (17G65)
PS I'm at the correct resolution, and turning the graphics quality all the way down to low seems to make no difference. Thanks!
Unfortunately I dont own ani Mac at home, so usually I test on friends system. I'll discuss this problem with one of my friend tomorrow. I hope he can say something. He had problem with retina display and 4k, but after he reduced it, the game worked like charm. Maybe the VGA is not Intel in his spec.
Yep, the Intel VGA is the problem, checked it.
This Game was fun as hell I can't imagine what you would have done with a whole team of devs. Keep up the good work man!
Thank you for the two video. There will be #3 ending part? :)
Seems to be coming along well! I think you've done a good job getting the atmosphere and ambiance that you were going for. That said, there's quite a lot of noticeable assets throughout. That's not really bad in itself, it just starts to stick out when they don't mesh very well. I guess, in short, it's still rough around the edges. I still think there's a long way to go with polishing most aspects of this project, but it's a promising start. I recorded my experience with the game if you'd like to take a look. Good luck with the rest of development!
Omg there is some wall without collider. That's new! :D Thank you for the video, nice editing! :)
Sorry i didn't bother playing it through i though it was a simple run and gun the style is fairely good you can barelly notice the stock assets this games got a overall good ambiance its main drawback is the optimisation i am freezing like hell and the lags almost never stop, and a better player mechanic this is really stiff, the camera plays catch up with the mouse like a Lerp in a LateUpdate, same with the movments.
Again ambiance is on point, needs a bit more scripting.
PS: the menu music is fucking sweet link pls
Probably my next game will be simpler. This was too much to text and polish for one man. Soo I'll try to simpliciter some elements to gain tons of time. For example less NPC or less point where you can do several puzzle in one time. We can say it will be more linear, but more time for puzzles. :)
You can download the music from here https://neoncodegame.wordpress.com/music/
I enjoyed it, yet for some reason, sometimes, when I try and load up, it either A. Freezes at 99% or B. Goes to "Just a Few Seconds More" and then eventually stops responding. Though, as a fellow one man dev, I can understand the struggles
Great game! I couldn't finish it after encountering what seemed to be a bug (or maybe just very bad luck) though I'm guessing I was near the end? Had a really fun time playing it either way. Pacing was a tad slow though I think the world you built made up for it since it was pretty to explore and helped pass the time between locations. Can't give you enough credit for the work that you managed to do here. Good luck with any other games you make down the road!
OMG, never see this big crash before :D I hope you finished it from the last checkpoint :)
When i launch the game, the start button on the window is below the screen. I can't start the game...
What is the resolution you use?
No its not that. When I click the version I want to download, the download doesn't start
Try to use Microsoft Edge or the Itch.io App to download it.
write an email for the email@example.com and I'll send you a direct link for the mac version
Somehow I can't download it. :(
ok where you stuck? Click on download > donate if you want > choose version to download > aaaand its done :)
YES MacOS VERSION IS OUT!!!
Are you planning to develop it further?
I think the story is now complete. Soo I'll just make bugfixes for this game in the future.
But I'm open for a second episode if I can make a team around me. Alone that would be too big project. We'll see :)
is there a 32 bit version? asking before i download cause most games don't have anymore 32 bit versions
its an universal version as i know. If it wont work, i'll create a 32bit version for you :)
Mind if I ask why you have a 32 bit computer still? Just curious. :)
Great game I realy enjoyed it. Amazing job for a single dev. I realy wish there was some voice acting but thats no were near a deal breaker for this game. I also wish the the objective marker was clearer and to have a map. However I still had fun playing this game and I mean these in no way as negitive comments. Great job and fantastic work :D!!
Wow, that made for a pretty solid detective story. I wish more AAA games I played had this much atmosphere and focus. Thanks for making it!
Love the visuals. I just finished the Cinema checkpoint. This is an incredible achievement for a single developer. Congrats.
Game looks amazing can't wait till u make the macOS version
I meant gta
also is this game a bit like eta
Please hurry up with the Mac OS version as I can't wait anymore! :)
